Assistant Professor - Voice

Dr. Phillips has studied voice with Richard Miller at Oberlin and at the Mozarteum Summer Institute in Salzburg, Austria. She has also studied with Anna Kaskas, Thomas Paul, and Martha Longmire. She completed her DMA in Vocal Performance at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, her MM degree in Performance and Literature from the Eastman School of Music at the University of Rochester, and her BM in Voice Performance from the Oberlin Conservatory. Among many performances, she has explored the relationship of poetry and song, with recitals on the poetry of Goethe and on the Mörike songs of Hugo Wolf. Her research interests include the large body of art songs which use texts drawn from children’s literature.
Dr. Phillips has 18 years of experience as a choral conductor, both of community and college ensembles. Her non-collegiate teaching experience includes a rural Missouri high School, the Music/Arts Institute and six years as Artist-in-Residence at Paseo High School for the Arts in Kansas City, Missouri. She continues to work with interested students on German diction through independent study and special studies courses and is an active member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing.
