Assistant Professor of Music Education and Horn

Vincent Bates teaches music education methods and applied horn at Northwest Missouri State University. Previously, he taught K-12 music (band, choir, and general music) for 12 years in Eureka, Utah. He has completed degrees at Brigham Young University (BM in Music Education, MM in Orchestral Conducting) and the University of Arizona (PhD in Music Education).
Vince enjoys research in music education philosophy and sociology (rural music education, social class, and gender) and has presented research at national and international conferences. Professional memberships include the MayDay Group (Production Editor of ACT: Action, Theory, and Criticism in Music Education), MENC (Gender SRIG chair), and GRIME International (co-chair). Vince lives in Maryville with his wife (Kristin), two sons (Landon & William), and two daughters (Sophie & Audrey).
