Dr. Robertson enters his 17th year at Northwest and 8th year as department chair of the Department of Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance.  Dr. Robertson is a recognized and respected leader, teacher, and friend to many.

Evidence of his leadership is clear by his many current and recent roles including serving two terms on the National Therapeutic Recreation Society Board of Directors, serving as its President for a year, serving terms as regional and State level Presidency roles in three other professional organizations, numerous advisory boards and voluntary leadership roles, including currently being the Chair of the Nodaway County Public Health Department (this is a publicly elected 4 year termed position), serving on a regional Independent Living Center’s board of directors since 1995 and serving on the Heartland Foundation’s Empower Plant Advisory Board since its inception.

On campus Dr. Robertson has lead or contributed to many initiatives successful initiatives here at Northwest including the establishment of the Abilities laboratory, the creation and development of the Mozingo Outdoor Education and Recreation Area or MOERA, the treatment center at Mt. Alveno, the Kauffman Scholars program, the renovation of Foster Aquatics Center, Horace Mann Gymnasium, the creation of the Amphitheater in University Park, the University Frisbee/disk golf course and much more.

In terms of teaching and learning, Dr. Robertson has won numerous teaching awards including the Missouri Governor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching and the HPERD department’s Teacher of the Year each year he was eligible. He has also been recognized for his contributions in other areas including services to people with disabilities (AAHPERD/AALR 1999, Special Olympics, and most recently Expanding Horizons, 2007), youth service providers (Boy Scouts of America, American Heart Association, American Lung Association, and most recently Missouri Governor Blunt for a youth at risk program (Empowerme) in 2007).

His recent scholarship efforts for 2008 include a new foundations textbook, 2 chapters in another book and one journal article. These are in addition to his 120 plus presentations, 50 plus publications, and 5 million in grants.

Finally, Terry the friend to many, enjoys meeting new people, further developing the relations he has, traveling (recently to China with 10 others from HPERD, Australia with 8 from HPERD, Spain, and Finland (with Dean Billesbach), spending time out of doors with family and friends.
