Matt Johnson received his B.A. in history and government in the Spring of 1996 from Northwest Missouri State University. In December of 1999 he earned his M.A. in history with a special emphasis on Modern America. His thesis, “Ronald Reagan and the End of the Cold War: Rhetoric and Symbolism in Modern America” dealt with President Reagan’s foreign policy during the Cold War and how that foreign policy was reflected through American cinema.
In the summer of 2000 Mr. Johnson received the Sasakawa Fellowship which enabled him to attend the Japan Studies Institute at San Diego State University. He is currently pursuing his doctorate in American Studies at the University of Kansas. His area of concentration includes: race relations, American Identity, and prison systems in the United States. He has taught: American Historical Survey, Introduction to Philosophy, Humanities of the Eastern World, Ethnicity in America, History Through Hollywood, and Special Topics in the Humanities: Comparative World Religions.
Matt is married to his lovely high-school and college sweetheart, Danielle, a first grade teacher and fellow alum of Northwest. Matt and Dani have one son, Hunter Shae, born on the 10th of September 2002.
