In 1926 the Betty Lamp was chosen to represent home economics, symbolizing the light of the home and the light of the mind. Thus, you see the the Betty Lamp representing our heritage in the background of the symbol. Superimposed on the betty lamp and having its birth in the Betty Lamp, is a brightly burning flame, representing the new energy and vitality of the profession-our flame of the future.
