The Family and Consumer Sciences Department celebrated Dr. Frances Shipley's years of service to North at a surprise reception last spring. At the reception, held after the annual FCS Student Recognition Banquet in March, FCS colleagues unveiled a scholarship fund established in Dr. Shipley's honor. Past and present colleagues and students attended, and many others commemorated her career through reminiscences incorporated into a scrapbook. Shipley, who served as a professor in the Family and Consumer Sciences Department for 40 years and as a chair for 30 years, retired at the end of the 2007-2008 school year. She also served as graduate dean for 20 of those years.
At this time, the Dr. Frances Shipley Scholarship has reached the minimal $10,000 endowment level, permitting scholarships to be awarded perpetually on an annual basis to a student majoring in one of the four academic areas within the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences. Contributions are still welcome, and would allow larger scholarship awards to be granted.
