Awards, Achievement and Recognition

Mabel Cook Senior Award

This award was established by Northwest Missouri home economics teachers to honor Miss Mabel Cook at the time of her retirement. Eligibility for this award includes:

  1. Completion of a major in Family and Consumer Sciences Education
  2. Achieve an "A" grade in student teaching
  3. Be a top-ranking student in all areas of Family and Consumer Sciences
  4. Exhibit satisfactory academic achievement in all coursework
  5. Participation in departmental and university activities
  6. Ability to cooperate, radiate enthusiasm, organize thoughts and be creative
  7. Must plan to enter the teaching profession

The student's name is engraved on a plaque in the Family and Consumer Sciences Department.


Betty Lamp Incentive Awards

These awards are given by the local chapter of the Pre-Professional Student Section of the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences, to any member. The purpose of the awards is to provide incentive for the membership to support and work for the objectives of the organization. The awards are made at the end of the year. The awards include:

  1. Leadership: This award is for a person who is able to delegate authority, to organize, to motivate other members, and to maintain order.
  2. Achievement: This award is given to a person who accepts a task and achieves it with professional standards.
  3. Cooperation: The person who will receive this award is capable of and willing to work with any person to reach a common goal.
  4. Loyalty: This award is given to the person who is faithful to commitments and carries through with obligations, and also puts AAFCS ahead of social activities.
