The English Department offers a number of one-time scholarships to currently enrolled undergraduates. Each scholarship has specific selection criteria. To be considered for any of the awards, a student must submit the English Department Scholarship Application form by February 1. Application forms are available from Ms. Donna Barmann, Department Secretary, in Colden Hall 2890.


Frank W. Grube Scholarship Award

Amount: Two $800 scholarships
English majors and minors, or current Blue Key members, or varsity tennis players are eligible.  All applicants must have junior standing.

Lee E. Barber Scholarship Fund

Amount: $500
Applicants must be sophomore English majors of high moral character and good academic standing.

Mildred Eckert Wallace Scholarship for English Teachers

Amount: $350
For an English education major with at least a sophomore standing and a minimum GPA of 3.0.

Mike Jewett Scholarship

Amount: $450
Awarded to a junior English major for use during senior year. Cumulative GPA of 3.0 with 3.5 in sophomore and junior English courses. Preference given to students with financial need, especially one who has shown extraordinary effort and improvement.

Dale Gorsuch English Scholarship

Amount: $200
The student must have declared a major in English with preference to, but not limited to, teacher education, have 3.5 GPA, and show financial need.

Lillian Gossard Johnson Scholarship

Amount: $200
The student must have declared a major in English (Literature Emphasis), have minimum cumulative 3.5 GPA, and show financial need.
