Ms. Lewis holds graduate degrees in Slavic Languages/Literature and Soviet and East European Area Studies from the University of Kansas, as well as an M.A. in English from Northwest. Her primary academic interest is writing and language theory; however, she also has a passion for literature, both contemporary and 19th-century, in particular 19th-century Russian literature. Publications include a set of Russian-to-English translations of articles by Soviet historians for the book Soviet-American Dialogue on the New Deal (Univ. of MO Press), feature articles, news stories, editorials, personal essays, literary essays, and radio essays. For her fiction, Lewis has been awarded residencies at a number of writing colonies, including Ragdale in Lake Forest, IL, for which she received a National Endowment for the Arts fellowship in 2000. At Northwest, she teaches courses in composition and literature and also serves as an associate editor for The Laurel Review.
