About the Bachelor of Arts Degree

English majors are dynamic. They learn to create, analyze, synthesize, construct, and deconstruct all forms of writing. As such, English majors make excellent information and communications managers. They are highly adaptable, so any field is open to them. An English degree makes an excellent pre-professional degree, not only for the reasons listed above, but also because the major requires a great deal of research.

The requirements for the 30-hour Bachelor of Arts in English provide a course balance of advanced writing and literature that is excellent preparation for the study of law, business, medicine; for careers in teaching, research, publishing, editing, advertising, journalism, technical writing and free-lance writing; and for management and other leadership positions requiring interpretive, diagnostic, and analytical problem-solving abilities.
