Department Vision and Mission Statements

Vision Statement

The Northwest Missouri State University Department of Communication, Theatre, and Languages will be a nationally recognized student-centered community of scholars and artists that prepares students for service as citizens and leaders in an increasingly diverse global society.

Mission Statement

Supporting Northwest Missouri State University's institution-wide vision and mission, the Department of Communication, Theatre, and Languages has a threefold mission:

  1. to serve the educational needs of the students of Northwest Missouri State University by providing programs of study that integrate theory and practice in the subject fields of communication, theatre, and languages. This part of the mission includes:
    1. attracting students who have the potential to become competent professionals in these various fields,
    2. preparing students in department majors for successful employment in those fields or for advanced study in graduate programs,
    3. providing all students with competency training in these fields that are essential to their success in school and in the world,
    4. maintaining a relationship with alumni and supporting their continual development as professionals and citizens; and
  2. to provide quality cultural, communicative, and linguistic performances and experiences for the University and surrounding communities; and
  3. to make a significant contribution to the advancement of knowledge in these fields.
