Getting To Know Dr. Joe Kreizinger

Dr. Joe Kreizinger (Ph.D. University of Nebraska 1995) joined the Northwest faculty in 2001 as team leader for the speech/theatre education program. Since 2002, Joe has served as Director of Theatre and has taught courses in both performance (Oral Interpretation, Creative Dramatics) and production (Theatre Practicum, Senior Project/Recital) as well as communications (Listening, Small Group Communication), where he also developed and teaches a specialized Fundamentals of Oral Communication course for education majors. He also regularly teaches Methods of Teaching Speech/Theatre and Theatre Freshman Seminar. Joe sponsors three University organizations: Improv ala Mode, Future Speech/Theatre Teachers, and the Northwest Fencing Club. Besides coordinating the operation of the theatre and speech/theatre education programs, Joe also directs each year. Recent productions include The Laramie Project, The Diviners, Great Expectations, Canadian Gothic, The Voice of the Prairie, and Dancing at Lughnasa. As a performer, his most recent experience includes the roles of Rick Steadman in The Nerd, Lennie in Of Mice and Men, and Michael in Lawrence Roman's Alone Together. Prior to Northwest, Joe was on the faculties of Wayne State College and the University of Nebraska Department of Theatre Arts and Dance. He also has 16 years experience as a secondary speech/theatre teacher and high school administrator, most of those years being at Lincoln (Neb.) High School, and Norfolk (Neb.) High School, where he directed three consecutive state champion one-act plays. When not involved in theatre activities, Joe enjoys being outdoors, reading, and spending time with his family. His wife, Monica, is a nurse at the St.Francis Family Health Care, and his son Caleb attends pre-Kindergarten at Horace Mann School. Small class size, friendly, supportive, and knowledgeable faculty, advanced technology and numerous (and early) opportunities to perform are several reasons he believes make Northwest the ideal environment for students to develop and practice skills and learn and experience the arts of theatre, communication, and teaching.
