Speech Communication

Speech communication has a traditional liberal arts focus. Required classes focus on the theory, history, and application of communication principles. This is a good pre-professional major for law, ministry or graduate work. A minor is required. Many students have found this a valuable major which enables them to apply communication in a variety of areas. The speech communication minor is a very popular choice for students in other majors, especially; Business Management, Marketing, Advertising, and Broadcasting.

Student Highlights

• Speech communication graduates are accepted into major graduate communication programs such as Portland State University and Mankato State University and often receive teaching assistantships.
• Speech communication graduates are accepted into major law schools such as those in UMKC and Chicago.
• The 2004-2005 Student Body President is a speech communication major.
• Speech communication students have successfully written or co-authored numerous grants, including those from:
