Northwest Missouri State University

About Us

Facilities

The Department of Chemistry, Physics and Science Education is housed in the Garrett-Strong Science Building, which was remodeled in 2001.  Modern instrumentation, such as a Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) and a Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) Spectrometer, are housed around the Garrett-Strong building, enabling students to have hands-on experience with the machines that are critical to chemists and physicists entering the workforce today.  Many other Universities will not allow undergraduates to work on scientific instruments while in class, whereas Northwest students are required and encouraged to use the instruments.  We also have teaching lab space on the third floor of Garrett-Strong, where students manipulate materials, record measurements and perform calculations as all good scientists should.
