Almost all of our students are involved in an agricultural organization; many are in several. Whatever your interests are, you will find that the groups within the department will give you plenty of opportunities to make new friends, enhance your education and simply have a lot of fun.
Ag Ambassadors are a group of agriculture majors chosen according to special criteria. They promote Northwest and the Department of Agriculture at national and state FFA conventions and various community and campus events. They also give tours of the department's facilities to prospective students.
Representatives from each agricultural organization make up Ag Council. They publish the Ag Alumni Newsletter and sponsor the Agriculture Awards Banquet. They also ensure communication between faculty and students in the department.
Membership in Agronomy Club is open to all students interested in crops and soils. The group sponsors speakers, field trips, and scholarships.
Alpha Gamma Rho is a national professional fraternity for men who intend to pursue a career in Agriculture. AGR has had one of the highest Greek GPA on campus in recent years.
ATA is an honorary organization for Agriculture Education majors. It enables members to develop professional and leadership skills. ATA has expanded to include the Collegiate FFA.
Block and Bridle is the department's newest organization.
The organization discusses agricultural issues of today, hosts guest speakers, and works with Farm Bureau Chapters on county, state, and national levels.
Open to students in the top 35 percent of their class who have completed 12 hours of agriculture courses, DTA is an agricultural honor society. It promotes high standards of scholarship, leadership and character among agriculture students.
The Horticulture Club maintains greenhouse space, manages plant and flower sales, and also helps landscape the campus. They host fundraisers, take field trips, and investigate developments in horticultural professions.
Both teams are open to all students interested in livestock or dairy cattle judging. Participation on judging teams helps sharpen organizational, analytical and communication skills.
This student group provides opportunities for agricultural business students to shadow a mentor, develop communication skills, and gain marketable job experience.
Rodeo Club is open to any student with an interest in horses. Rodeo Club is an active organization on campus. Rodeo Team members participate in sanctioned rodeo events throughout the Central Plains Region. The group is complemented by new facilities, which include a lighted arena.
As a professional agricultural sorority, Sigma Alpha promotes women in agriculture and strengthens the bonds of friendship among them. Members strive for achievement in scholarship, leadership, and service.
