One of the dual air conditions that keeps the main computer room cool has failed. Banner, Luminis and several other Servers will be turned off for the evening of May 20, 2009, to prevent overheating and damage of equipment while repairs are made. Thus, various campus services will be unavailable.
The internet and Northwest email should, however, continue to operate normally.
The goal is to have most servers operational no later than tomorrow afternoon (May 21, 2009).
Sorry for the inconvenience and thank you for your understanding!
Northwest’s Information Systems has received numerous reports of individuals
receiving e-cards in their inbox from various greeting card companies, including
American Greetings and Hallmark, that contain damaging viruses.
If you are not expecting an e-card and do not recognize the sender of an e-card, DO NOT open the message!
One example of such a virus-containing e-card is from American Greetings and the Subject line say's "You have got a new e-card from your friend." DO NOT open this email link or any similar e-cards from other companies with such a Subject. The American Greetings e-card has already caused many computers on campus to crash.
If you have such an e-card in your inbox, DO NOT open it. DELETE it immediately!
If you have your reading pane activated, you should turn it off before trying to
delete it. The virus has been launched when simply in reading pane mode and without clicking on the link.
If you have opened an e-card already, immediately back-up your files to a CD or to a Flash drive and call the Help Desk at 660-562-1634.
