Faculty, staff and administration may request that a program available via satellite be brought in to the university. The program can be viewed live (over Campus Cable TV Ch. 96) and/or recorded onto a videotape or burned to a DVD (if allowable under the license agreement). See below for additional information.
For Satellite Videoconferences which charge a fee to downlink: There is a small budget allocated to bring in satellite videoconferences. Budget priority will be given to satellite programs which benefit the university as a whole, with a lower priority given to programming for a department. Programs requested for an individual must be approved by their department chair or immediate supervisor. If allowed by the program’s License Agreement, a video copy will be made which will be housed and cataloged into Owens Library where it may be checked out. Copies of purchased satellite videoconferences may NOT be kept by departments or individuals.
If allowed by the producer, a person can request that a video copy be made of a free satellite program. The requestor may keep the video copy, but care must be taken to follow the copyright restrictions (if any) specific to that program.
You may request that a satellite program air “live” over Campus Cable TV Ch. 96. This allows all university faculty, staff and students the ability to view the program at the same time, anywhere on campus where there is cable TV access. If you do not wish to view the program live and would prefer a video copy (and if that is allowed in the license agreement), a copy will be made in accordance with the rules outlined above.
