The new CatPAWs system provides
greater security features than WebSTAR.

Students, faculty and
advisors will soon say goodbye to WebSTAR and hello to CatPAWS,
the new personal access to web services software.
Students will use WebSTAR
the last time for Summer 2004 Pre-registration and Drop/Add.
Fall 2004 Pre-registration and Drop/Add will be done on
the new CatPAWS system
One of the biggest changes
in using CatPAWS, which will have all the resources of WebSTAR
such as billing, class registration, transcript information,
etc., will be the use of the Bearcat Card ID Number as a
username and a 6-digit numeric PIN for a password.
In addition, unlike with
WebSTAR, students will enter a security question and the
answer to that question, which will help them access their
account should they fail to remember their password. Another
key feature that differentiates the new system from WebSTAR
is that the Pre-registration password that students get
from their advisors, which allows them to register for classes,
will be called an Alternate PIN. Unlike with WebSTAR, where
the Pre-registration password was used only initially to
enroll for classes, students must use the Alternate PIN
each time they wish to Drop or Add a class.
Student documentation
on how to use the CatPAWS system is available on the Client
Computing On-Line
Support web page.
The new CatPAWS system
will go into effect for Fall preregistration on March 15.
