Backup Your Computer Data

Northwest owns all university-provided notebook computers and all university-provided software.  Therefore, Information Systems reserves the right to format and reload the hard disk of all university-provided notebook computers without a user's permission.

Information Systems is not responsible for backing up (copying) personal files on university-provided notebook computers.  Consequently, it is the responsibility of the user to make and keep a backup of important personal files on an alternate storage device.

Alternative storage devices (other than the network storage folder provided by Information Systems) are not provided by Northwest or Information Systems.  The user is solely responsible for purchasing such a device with personal funds.  Such devices include, but are not limited to, USB Flash/Jump drive and CD.  Users are encouraged to back-up files on a weekly basis in case of hardware or software failure.

If you are wondering how to back up your personal documents and files on your computer, then this presentation is for you. It will tell you about the basics of backing up data and give you some choices on how you can accomplish this on a regular basis.

PC Maintenance

If your personal computer seems to be running much slower than it did when you first purchased it, it is time for your PC to have the equivalent of an automobile "tune-up." By tuning-up your computer on a weekly or monthly basis, you will help greatly extend the life of your PC, as well as, help speed it up. The tune-up entails the following: Deleting Temporary Internet files, uninstalling unused software, deleting any unneeded files, and running Scandisk and Defragmenter.

Note: Performing daily or weekly Windows Updates on your PC is important.

Please see the following links on how to "tune-up" your PC and install and run Windows Updates.
