How to Delete Temporary Internet Files in Internet Explorer 7, 8 & 9

 

To delete the files and information that Internet Explorer® stores on your computer, please do the following:

Note:  By deleting temporary internet files, you are not deleting your Favorites.  You are, however, removing the list of web sites you have visited, cookies, web form information, web site passwords and other temporarily saved information.

Delete temporary files in Internet Explorer 7

  1. Open Internet Options by clicking the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking Network and Internet, and then clicking Internet Options.
  2. Click the General tab, and then, under Browsing history, click Delete.
  3. Click Delete all.
  4. Click Yes to confirm that you want to delete this information.
  5. Click OK.

Note:  Deleting browsing history may take some time, depending on when you last deleted temporary files.

Delete temporary files in Internet Explorer 8

  1. Open Internet Options by clicking the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking Network and Internet, and then clicking Internet Options.
  2. Click the Safety button, and then click Delete Browsing History.
  3. Select the check box next to each category of information you want to delete.
  4. Select the Preserve Favorites web site data check box if you do not want to delete the cookies and files associated with websites in your Favorites list.
  5. Click Delete.

Note:  Deleting everything within Internet Options such as cookies, temporary internet files, etc., can solve many problems you may have been experiencing with your web browser, speeding up performance and freeing hard disk space.  However, be aware that by deleting everything, you may have to retype passwords that were previously stored on your computer.

Delete temporary files in Internet Explorer 9

  1. Open Internet Explorer by clicking the Start button.
  2. In the search box, type Internet Explorer, and then, in the list of results, click Internet Explorer.  Or click the Internet Explorer icon within your Start menu.
  3. Once Internet Explorer opens, click the Tools button, and then click Internet Options.
  4. Click the General tab, and then, under Browsing History, click Delete.
  5. In the Delete Browsing History dialog box, select Temporary Internet files (by default all options are typically selected, but you can customize by unchecking or checking the boxes within the Delete Browsing History window).
  6. Click Delete, and then click OK.
  7. 

Note:  Deleting everything within Internet Options such as cookies, temporary internet files, etc., can solve many problems you may have been experiencing with your web browser, speeding up performance and freeing hard disk space.
