DSC, a thermal analysis technique measures the temperatures and heat flows associated with thermal transitions in a material. The main application of DSC is in studying phase transitions, such as melting, glass transitions, or exothermic decompositions. Using this technique it is possible to observe fusion and crystallization events, glass transition temperatures. DSC can also be used to study oxidation as well as other chemical reactions. Applications include examining of amorphous solids, liquid crystals, pharmaceuticals/, polymeric materials and fibers etc.
