Recruit at Northwest

My “Hire A Bearcat” Account

Northwest's internship, job, campus interviewing, and recruitment system. Hire A Bearcat is part of the NACElink Network, the result of a national alliance among the National Association of Colleges and Employers, DirectEmployers Association, and Symplicity Corporation and is the only job listing and campus interviewing service that provides employers the ability to directly interact with Northwest Missouri State University students and alumni

On-Campus Recruiting

Participating in On-Campus Recruiting is an investment in your employer’s future. Through visiting campus, students begin to develop an awareness of your company which may lead them to apply for full-time/internship opportunities in the future.

Employers visit the Northwest campus each trimester to recruit quality candidates. We encourage you to promote your job/internship opportunities through hosting information sessions/information tables, conducting on-campus interviews, and participating in career events like Career Day or Next Day Interviews. These activities provide students with the opportunity to meet recruiters and network within their industry without leaving campus!

Post Jobs/Internships

Posting current job/internship opportunities through Hire A Bearcat (our online recruiting system by NACElink/ Symplicity) helps generate interest and a better understanding of employer expectations. Hire A Bearcat is available to all current students and active alumni. Stretch your brand by uploading a company logo to link to candidates directly to your organization’s website and social media venues.

Career Services lists full-time or part-time positions, internships, and interviewing opportunities on Hire A Bearcat, an online recruiting system used by students, alumni, and employers. This system was designed with you in mind; it is straightforward, simple, and free.  Once you have registered for an account you can manage both postings and interview schedules in one location. Below are the guidelines for job/internship postings:

  • All positions require a complete job description, which should include: position summary, essential functions, minimum qualifications, preferred qualifications, working conditions, contact information, and application instructions.
  • We must be able to obtain confirmation of your organization and/or vacancy from your website.
  • Full-time positions must be career focused and require at least a bachelor’s degree.
  • Part-time positions must be career focused and require the candidate to be in pursuit of a degree.
  • Internship positions must be career focused and may be for credit or not-for credit.
  • No positions will ask for excessive outlay of personal candidate funding (fees) in order to obtain the position.
  • All third-party recruiters must adhere to our Third Party Recruiter Policy.

In an effort to increase efficiencies, we ask that you post your own positions to Hire A Bearcat.  By posting and managing your jobs, internships, and interview schedules personally, you guarantee that these opportunities will be advertised in a timely manner.  If you need assistance using the system, please contact our office at 660-562-1250 or career@nwmissouri.edu

Attend Events

Get involved – attend campus events like Career Day, Education Expo, “Mock” Interview Day, and Next Day Interviews to promote your employer, meet potential hires and build relationships with faculty.

Career Day

Offered each fall and spring, this event provides employers the opportunity to connect with potential hires for full-time or internship positions. We believe you will find our event to be both affordable and professional. Graduate schools and other post-professional schools are also encouraged to participate. This event is open to all students, alumni and community members.

Education Expo

This job fair is designed for school districts and private schools seeking potential teaching candidates. Soon-to-graduate teacher candidates, alumni and other guests can present their resumes to school districts and learn about the district’s immediate openings.

Next-Day Interviews and On-campus Interviews

Employers may conduct on-campus interviews throughout the trimester or can participate in our Next-Day Interviews event which is hosted the day following Career Day and Education Expo. Many employers choose to return to campus following a successful Career Day or Education Expo to interview candidates they networked with the day before.  Employers must pre-register with Career Services to reserve space to interview candidates. Space is available on a first-come, first-serve basis.

"Mock" Interview Day   http://www.nwmissouri.edu/careerserv/events/index.htm

“Mock” Interview Day is held each fall and spring. The day is composed of nine mock interviews for each selected employer and is designed to provide students with feedback on how to improve their resume and interviewing skills to better prepare them for real interviews. Each interview session will be approximately 40 minutes, which allows 20 minutes to conduct the student’s interview and 10-15 minutes to evaluate the resume and provide feedback. This is an all-day event, the first interview begins at 8:30 a.m. and the last interview concludes by 4:30 p.m. If you are interested in participating please contact our office.

Internships

Northwest students can go from the classroom to the workplace with ease. They know the value of real-world experience, and they aggressively seek out internships to augment their degree work. They participate in internships to test-drive potential careers, build marketable resumes and expand real-world skills. Pursue talented internship candidates at our career events, through on-campus recruitment visits or through resume referrals. Additionally, we can post your intern openings on Hire A Bearcat, which is easily accessible to all Northwest students.

Information Sessions/Information Tables

An information session is a presentation hosted in a private setting, by an employer, which provides students a chance to learn about the organization in a less formal setting than an interview. You will have the opportunity to ask questions and get to know the recruiter(s) on a more personal level.

An information table is hosted in a high-traffic and public area, which provides students the opportunity to ask a quick question or to have a short conversation. The recruiter may share handouts or direct you to their website for more information.

Connect through targeted emails/messages/fliers

We will send out emails (you must provide the content) and hang posters/fliers throughout campus to share your message with students, faculty and alumni.

Visit with Student Groups

Partner with us to connect with students, campus organizations, and faculty by hosting a workshop or presenting to a student organization.

Provide site visits

Offer site visits and tours of your facility to introduce potential hires to your company and its culture.
