Taking Action

The Basics
  • Evaluate employment options and/or continuing education options.
  • Attend events (Workshops, “Mock” Interview Day, Career Day, and/or Education Expo) to learn about internships, graduate schools, full-time employment and other career related topics.
  • Network with professionals in your field whenever possible.
  • Schedule an appointment with Career Services to discuss your own individualized post-graduate plan.
  • If pursing additional education take the appropriate entrance exams.
  • Apply for graduate programs (first choice/back-ups) based upon review of school information and faculty advice.
  • Secure faculty letters of recommendation for graduate/professional school applications and confirm references for your job search.
  • Complete a final draft of your resume; revisit employment opportunities frequently.
  • Fine-tune your interviewing skills.  Review common interview questions and participate in “mock” interviews.
  • Consider your location preferences.

Get Ahead

  • Continue to build and utilize your network.  Contact friends, family, past work supervisors, and alums who can provide advice about entering into the field/industry of your choice.
  • Conduct research on employers within your field/industry of interest.  Review professional journals, employer directories, and information available directly from the employer.
