The purpose of ABC is to promote University togetherness and awareness of the African-American culture and history. Cultural diversity is of utmost importance. ABC is open to all Northwest students who have a desire to work for togetherness and equality. The group is involved in such activities as the Martin Luther King Day Celebration and the Big Brother-Big Sister program.

Blue Key recognizes student leaders on campus. Membership requires that a person be a full-time student and be nominated and approved by a two-thirds vote of the active chapter. Nominees must be involved in campus activities and be in the top one-third of their respective classes scholastically.

The purpose of Cardinal Key is to give recognition to students who have shown a degree of excellence in their scholastic and campus participation and to raise money for juvenile diabetes. To qualify for membership, students must show leadership ability, be of at least sophomore status, and have a 3.0 GPA.

The purpose of HALO is to promote and maintain a healthy and positive environment for not only Hispanic students, but for any student who would like to learn more about the Hispanic culture. The annual events held by HALO include Hispanic Heritage Month, La Fiesta Latina, Shake your Bon-Bon, a Regional Empowerment Conference, and the USHLI National Conference.

IFC is the governing body for the men’s national Greek organizations which fosters interfraternity relations, assists the collegiate chapter of the National Interfraternity Council, and cooperates with universities in maintaining the highest scholastic and social standards.

ISO’s purpose is to promote better relationships among students of different cultural and ethnic backgrounds. Membership is open to all students and faculty who share an interest.

M-Club is composed of athletes who have earned at least one varsity letter in any sport at Northwest. The purpose of this organization is to engender a feeling of camaraderie among its members; to encourage academic excellence; to uphold, maintain, and promote clean and wholesome athletics; and to serve the high morals of athletics of the student body at the University.

Mortar Board is a national senior honor society recognizing students for outstanding scholarship, leadership and service. To be considered for membership, one must be a rising senior, have at least a 3.0 GPA and have an exemplary record of leadership and service to the University and/or community.

The purpose of the National Residence Hall Honorary is to provide recognition and support for those individuals who have provided outstanding service and important leadership in the advancement of the residence hall system. NRHH is comprised of the top one percent of student leaders in the residence halls.

Exists to recognize and celebrate high achievement among first and second year students in all academic disciplines. We promote high standards, provide opportunities for personal growth, leadership development, and community service and provide a National Scholars Merit Award to one outstanding member each year.

Northwest Peer Educators are students who work to educate their fellow students on alcohol and drug issues, building healthy relationships and avoiding sexual assault, recognizing and responding to eating disorders, promoting and understanding diversity, and practicing healthy mental and physical life-styles. Northwest Peer Educators are certified through the BACCHUS/GAMMA curriculum and have opportunities for additional training on campus and by attending regional and national conferences.

National leadership honorary that recognizes individuals who have attained a high standard of leadership in collegiate activities, to encourage and facilitate that continued growth of members in the leadership areas of their choice and to inspire others to strive for conspicuous attainment in leadership areas.

Order of Omega is a national honorary for men and women in Greek letter fraternities and sororities. Members must have a high standard of leadership and scholarship and service in interfraternity, University and community activities.

RTNDA is the only professional organization dedicated exclusively to the interests of radio and television journalists. Northwest is one of only 30 college/university chapters in the country. The national RTNDA organization has placed a cap on additional college chapters. Northwest RTNDA helps students interested in broadcast journalism learn more about what is available through coursework alone.

RHA is an organization for those who wish to become active in the governing and programming activities for the residence halls across campus. RHA is involved in enacting residence hall policies and promoting programs and activities to upgrade and enhance the environment in the residence halls. The goal of this group is to encourage a spirit of community among the individuals who choose to live in the residence halls.

Sigma Society is an organization for women whose purpose is to provide service for the community and University. Sigma Society is sponsored locally by Soroptimist International of Maryville. To become a member, you must be at least a second trimester freshman with a cumulative GPA of 2.50. Sigma Society provides a way for students interested in enriching their college experience to become involved in meaningful activities that will benefit others.

The purpose of Student Activities Council is to plan and administer the activities of the student body in order to contribute to a more well-rounded social, recreational, and cultural life for the campus and community. The Student Activities Council sponsors concerts, lectures, movies, comedians and other entertainment. SAC has brought entertainers such as Hinder, Chris Cagle, Wanda Sykes, Jeff Dunham, Anthony Rapp and Gideon Yago.

These student leaders assist the Admissions Office in student recruitment, conduct tours for visiting prospective students, and assist during Freshman Orientation, Family Day and Sneak Preview. Members are chosen in an interview process by current Ambassadors. Applicants must have a 2.70 GPA, three trimesters remaining and be a full-time student.

Student Senate is the representative governing body of the Student Government Association, which includes all students at Northwest. The Student Government serves fellow students in several capacities: proposing beneficial revisions in University policy, providing student representation to Faculty Senate and various University committees, acting as a link between students and University administration, processing the formation of new student organizations, supervising campus-wide elections and allocating funds to campus organizations.

The Tower yearbook is a practicum open to students interested in writing, photography, design or production for the publication. Staff members gain hands-on journalism experience in a laboratory setting run by student editors.
