Northwest’s Special Teams have played an important role in the success of our program over the last 21 years. This camp will provide you an opportunity to work with two of the best instructors in the Midwest. Joel Mathews will work with the kickers and Kelly Goodburn will work with the punters.

Instructors

Joel Mathews
Kicking Coach

Joel Mathews is the offensive coordinator and was the kicking coach at Fort Osage High School in Independence, MO. Joel has coached high school football for 12 years. Joel graduated from Northwest Missouri State in 2004. He was the starting punter at Northwest Missouri State and was a member of the team from 2000-2004.

Kelly Goodburn
Punting Coach

Kelly was a punter in the NFL for seven years from 1987-1993. During his professional career he played for the Kansas City Chiefs and Washington Redskins. He was the starting punter for the 1992 Super Bowl Champion Redskins. He played in a total of 85 games, and averaged 40 yards per punt. His collegiate career started at Iowa State University where he played four years for the Cyclones, and finished his college career at Emporia State University for one year. His son, Kyle Goodburn, was a 4-year starter from 2011 to 2014.

The entire Northwest coaching staff will be working this camp with the specialty coaches and student-athletes.
