Austin MeyerAustin Meyer
Associate Head Coach

Austin Meyer enters his ninth season on the Bearcat staff and second season as Associate Head Coach.
During Meyer’s time on staff, the Bearcats have put together six-straight 20-win seasons. The team has won three MIAA Tournament championships, five MIAA regular season championships, made four NCAA Division II Sweet Sixteen appearances, appeared in an Elite Eight and captured the program’s first ever national championship in 2016-17, going 35-1.
Meyer is the program’s lead recruiter. Other duties include organizing and running the Center Court Cat Club, organizing and presenting opponent scouting reports, coordination official visits, coordinating team travel, community engagements, summer camps, social media, post player skill development and more.
Prior to being named a full-time assistant, Meyer was hired as a graduate assistant under then-head coach Steve Tappmeyer. He would be promoted to a full-time assistant in Tappmeyer’s final season in 2008-09.
A native of Blue Springs, Mo., Meyer's playing career spanned four seasons from 2002-06, leading the team in scoring (13.3) and rebounding (5.4) in 2004-05 squad. He was Northwest's all-time leading three-point shooter with 215 made until current Bearcat Zach Schneider broke the record in 2015-2016. His 1,294 career points rank ninth in program history.
Meyer won an MIAA conference tournament championship and made an appearance in the Elite Eight during the 2003-04 season when the team finished 29-5. As a sophomore, Meyer led the team with 68 three-pointers and shot 42 percent from beyond the arc. He finished as the team's second-leading scorer with 11.5 points per game. Meyer was the team’s leading scorer as a Junior in 2004-05 & helped lead the Bearcats to the Sweet Sixteen as a senior in 2006-07.
He graduated from Northwest with his bachelor’s degree in corporate recreation in 2006 and then received his master’s in physical education in 2008.
Meyer and his wife Kelsi reside in Maryville.


Christian PhelpsChristian Phelps
Graduate Assistant

Christian Phelps enters his second season as a graduate assistant coach, but is no stranger to Bearcat Basketball. Phelps spent the previous four years as a Student Assistant. During his time as a student coach, the Bearcats had an overall record of 92-30, which included four 20+ win seasons, three MIAA regular season titles, one MIAA Tournament title and three Sweet Sixteen appearances.

Phelps is from Lone Jack, Mo., and received his degree in Physical Education with a minor in Sport Psychology.


Zach SchneiderZach Schneider
Graduate Assistant

Zach Schneider enters his first season as a graduate assistant coach. Previously Schneider was a four year player for Northwest and a member of the 2017 Division II National Championship team.

Schneider is from Prairie Village, Kan., and received his degree in Business Administration and Management with a minor in Sport Management.
