Downy Hawthorn, Crataegus mollis
Northeastern United States. Two-inch thoms can be dangerous but valued as a barrier or hedge. Broad, sharply serrated 3-inch leaves. Height 20 to 30 feet. One-inch red fruit ripens in fall. Often badly infected with hawthorn rust.
