Northwest Missouri State University

Create a living legacy.
Commemorate a tree.

Greetings!

On December 10, 2007, Northwest Missouri State University was dealt a devastating blow when a tremendous ice storm struck the entire region. Thousands were without heat or electricity, and schools were closed - even Northwest (and it was finals week!). Northwest students, faculty and staff rallied together to make the best out of this challenging situation.

Fortunately, classes at Northwest are back in full swing and life has returned to normal, with one noticeable exception. A walk through campus tells the entire story. More than 40% of the trees on Northwest's campus, which is designated the Missouri Arboretum, were damaged. In addition, because of the effects of this vicious ice storm, 79 trees had to be removed. Several others will certainly be lost in the near future.

As Northwest President Dr. Dean L. Hubbard said, "The trees are an integral part of Northwest. The campus is grieving, but we must look to the future. This campus and this arboretum will be better than it ever was."

A plan has been developed that calls for a university-wide celebration highlighted by the planting of at least 79 trees - one for each tree lost due to the storm - in April. Even more trees will be planted in the following months and years.

But first, your help is needed.

Help is needed to ensure your beautiful campus will continue to be the peaceful retreat and living laboratory that you and thousands of other Bearcats have cherished.

With a gift of $300, you can commemorate a tree on the Northwest campus. Your gift will cover the cost of the tree, its planting and maintenance for the tree's lifetime. In addition, your name or the name of a friend or loved one will be included on a plaque next to the tree. Gifts of any amount also are welcome and will assist with clean up and maintenance of the arboretum.

Don't delay. Create your living legacy at Northwest today.

Yes, I will help.
