Through your contribution to Northwest, you can feel proud to know that your legacy will impact countless generations of Bearcats. Although The Campaign for Northwest, the University's first-ever capital campaign, has concluded, there are still many areas that need your support. Your financial assistance is critical in allowing the University to not only sustain, but enhance its quality of education.
Your gift is wisely spent
According to the Better Business Bureau's Wise Giving Alliance for finance standards, when Northwest alumni and friends make a charitable donation through the Northwest Foundation, they can be confident their gift is spent wisely.
The finance standard for the Better Business Bureau's Wise Giving Alliance prescribes that no less 
than 65 percent of total expenses of a charitable organization be spent on charitable programs.
Using this standard, in Fiscal Year 2010, the Northwest Foundation exceeded the BBB's expectations by spending 78 percent of every dollar on University programs. This amounted to $1.7 million, which included more than $600,000 in scholarships and $800,000 in direct support to Northwest. Furthermore, only 5 percent of the Foundation's total expenses were fundraising expenses, such as donor cultivation, and 17 percent were management and general expenses, such as auditing services, training and interest expenses.
Since FY05, Northwest has averaged spending 81 percent of every dollar on University programs, peaking in FY08 when that figure reached 89 percent.
Continued success
Total private support to the University through the Northwest Foundation in FY10 topped the $6 million mark, making it the second best year in the institution's history. Of that total, $3.1 million was realized in bequests and $1.5 million was received in the form of planned gift expectancies, which climbed to an all-time high of $26.6 million. This is the fourth year in the last five years that private support to the Northwest Foundation exceeded $5 million.
