Chapter Updates

Winter 2007 (from the Northwest Alumni Magazine)

The Kansas City Chapter had a great summer hosting happy hours throughout the metropolitan area. The chapter also had a wine and cheese social at the Dot Gallery that was part of Kansas City’s First Friday Art Walk and co-sponsored a poetry reading with Dr. William Trowbridge at the Kansas City Library.

The chapter was involved with the annual Fall Classic at Arrowhead, assisting with the pregame tailgate party as well as an event at The Quaff the night before the game.

For more information about the Kansas City Chapter, contact President Jennifer Hewitt Smith ’86 at Jennifer.L2.Smith@sprint.com.

Members of the Kansas City Chapter attended a special happy hour for Northwest men’s basketball coach Steve Tappmeyer in December. Fan support for both Bearcat basketball teams was great in March with the chapter’s First Friday happy hour. The chapter also conducted a food drive for Harvesters and wishes to thank everyone who contributed. This summer and fall, the chapter has a calendar full of First Friday happy hours planned throughout the Kansas City metropolitan area. An updated calendar will be distributed via e-mail and can be viewed at www.nwmissouri.edu/alumni/alumnicalendar.htm.

Spring 2007 (from the Northwest Alumni Magazine)

The Kansas City Alumni Chapter hosted a Chiefs watch party in September and raised a significant amount of money for its scholarship fund, thanks in large part to a donation by Joe Bonino, owner of The Quaff and long-time Bearcat supporter. The “First Friday” happy hours and the Fall Classic at Arrowhead festivities were successful, and special thanks go to the Nebraska/Western Iowa Chapter for its help at Arrowhead. Chapter members attended several watch parties for the semi-final and national championship football games and participated in North Kansas City’s Snake Saturday parade.

The chapter's golf tournament is scheduled for Aug. 4 at Paradise Point in Smithville. The chapter will give its first scholarship this fall.

Spring 2006 (from the Northwest Alumni Magazine)

During the past year, the Kansas City Alumni Chapter has worked to recruit new members and develop social functions that not only bring in new faces, but also help generate funds for the chapter scholarship program. The chapter recently met its $10,000 goal to create the KC Alumni Chapter Scholarship. The chapter kicked off the fall sports season with its First Friday Happy Hour at The Quaff in August and hosted a social and barbecue at The American Royal. In October, the chapter assisted with the Fall Classic at Arrowhead. Three Chiefs Cheerleaders, who also are fellow Bearcats, made an appearance at the last First Friday Happy Hour of the year. The Quaff was packed with Northwest fans to view the NCAA football semifinal and championship games on television.
