What to Expect

The schedule for the day:

During the day, you will

  • Get oriented to Northwest services and campus life
  • Receive a copy of your degree audit and a general overview to prepare you for your advising appointment
  • Meet with an advisor
  • Register for classes
  • Take a photo for your Bearcat card (student ID)
  • Take a tour of campus, if you choose
  • Visit other offices, as needed:
    • Financial Assistance
    • Bursar's Office
    • Transfer Services
    • Admission

Things to do before you arrive on campus

Complete your housing contract, if you are living on campus

If you plan to live on campus, be sure to complete your housing application online, and pay your deposit. Room assignments will be available through CatPAWS.

Turn in your health history forms

Students must submit a completed health history form and immunization records to Wellness Services prior to classes beginning. Specific to the Meningitis Vaccine requirement, students are not allowed to live on campus unless record of this vaccine is submitted.

Verify your attendance

Students should verify their attendance each trimester before the term begins. Verification is available from 2 weeks before classes start up until the first day of classes through CatPAWS.

Register your car ahead of time

If you plan to have a car on campus, you can register it through CatPAWS, under the Personal Information tab. You will pick up the permit in Cashiering when you arrive on campus.

Sign your computer/user agreement

Before you can pick up your laptop, you will need to sign your computer/user agreement through CatPAWS, under the Personal Information tab.

Retrieve your email and Northwest Online log in from CatPAWS

Once you are enrolled, within a couple days, you will be assigned an S-number, which will be your email (combined with @nwmissouri.edu) and computer log-in. ou can access this and your password through CatPAWS under personal information. You may change your password.

Complete your College Student Inventory

The first week of classes, you will receive an email to complete a college student inventory, which will be instrumental for both your University Seminar course and connecting you to resources you are interested in on campus.

Complete your Title IX Training

All students must complete Title IX training, which is an online module to educate students on Northwest's non-discrimination and anti-harassment policy. Students receive an email with a link to complete this before classes start.

Things to do after you arrive on campus

Get your Bearcat Card/University ID made

If you have not already done this at orientation, you can do it when you arrive on campus at the Student Affairs Office in the Student Union, Monday-Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Pick up your laptop

Laptop pick up will be the Friday before classes start at the Electronic Campus Support Center between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. If you are not able to pick up your laptop on Friday, you may also pick it up the following week.

Pick up your books

Textbook pick up is located in the Station the Friday and Sunday before classes start. If you are unable to pick them up that weekend, they will also be available to pick up on the first day of classes. Freshmen may go on their own or with their University Seminar class.

Pick up your Parking Permit

If your have registered your car on CatPAWS, you can pick up your parking permit when you arrive on campus in Cashiering on the first floor of the Admin. Building. You will need your Bearcat ID.
