When do I move in?

Move in day for Fall 2019 is Saturday, August 17. You will receive information in late summer about moving in, including a map that tells you how to drive into campus and where to drop off your stuff. We even have the Cat Crew to meet you and lend a hand when you need it.

Do I actually have class during Advantage?

Yes, University Seminar begins meeting during Advantage, the day after you move in, and meets throughout the weekend. University Seminar starts before your other classes because it helps get you acclimated to campus. Your University Seminar Instructor and Peer Advisor (an upper-class student who is a teaching assistant) can act as your guides through those first days and weeks on campus, and even better, you have an instant group of new friends with similar interests.

Do I have to attend all of the activities?

Some activities are required and some are optional. You will receive an Advantage invitation and later an Advantage planner that will highlight the activities that are required, as well as tell give you your options for other cool things to do. Most of your required activities are things that you attend with either your Peer Advisor or your Resident Assistant and your classmates, so do not worry about not knowing anyone.

Should my family stay all weekend?

Typically your family helps move you in and get settled, but don’t stay beyond that day. However, if they have a long way to drive, your family may want to make reservations at a hotel in Maryville for that night. You will be so busy with activities throughout the weekend that you probably won't have a lot of time to spend with them. And before you know it, it will be time to go home for a visit.

What if I can't attend?

It's important for freshmen to attend Advantage if at all possible, particularly since classes start that weekend. On rare occasions though, people cannot get here before the first day. If this happens you should contact the Student Success Center, Residential Life, and your University Seminar Instructor so we will know that you do plan to be here.
