It should come as no surprise that college has different academic expectations than high school. At Northwest, we understand this transition and make it our goal to help students succeed in the classroom. Tutoring is available at no cost through the Talent Development Center, located in the Administration Building. Tutors can be secured for almost all of the general education courses and every effort will be made to find a tutor for an upper-level course as well. Some traditionally tough courses offer supplemental instruction, which includes three out-of-class group tutoring sessions per week.
Students do not need to be in danger of failing a course to request a tutor. It is best to receive the help of a tutor before falling behind in a class.
Tutoring sessions include study skills information, test-taking strategies, content review of general studies and foundation-level courses in many majors. Tutoring sessions will be designed to fit the individual's needs.
Tutoring is also available in the Math Lab in the Garrett-Strong Science Building. The Writing Center staff in the library will help you develop, write and edit your class assignments.
All tutoring services are provided free of charge and are available to all students.
