Majors and Academics
Are you still deciding between mass media and interactive digital media, pre-medicine or pre-dental? It's ok. That's what college is for, and at Northwest, you have options.
We have 127 programs of study, so you will find your niche. Plus, with more than 70 minors and 19 preprofessional programs, you can create a course of study that is tailored to your needs and interests. With a student-to-faculty ratio of 22-to-1, you also will receive individual attention. But we're not done, 95 percent of students gain profession-based learning experiences through faculty-student research, internships, study abroad, service learning, and more.
Whatever your passion, we've got the faculty and staff members to energize and guide you in a profession-based environment. Get real teaching time in the Horace Mann Laboratory School or the Phyllis and Richard Leet Center for Children and Families. See your name in print in the Northwest Missourian or hear yourself on-air on KZLX. Gain experience with livestock and crops on the 450-acre University laboratory farm. Pitch your ideas to real-world clients and work alongside businesses at the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship.
Not sure what major you should choose? No worries. The Advisement Office and Career Services Office offer an Exploring Majors and Minors fair in the fall and spring. Your general education coursework might give you some ideas, too. Check out the many career opportunities available for our different majors.
