OSU professor is next centennial speaker

MARYVILLE, Mo. - The second installment in Northwest's Centennial Alumni Speaker Series gets underway at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 3, in the J.W. Jones Student Union Ballroom.

Dr. Larry Miller is the featured speaker. Miller is a professor in the Department of Human and Community Resource Development at The Ohio State University.

Nominated for the series by the Northwest's Department of Agriculture, Miller earned a master's degree at the University in1969. His thesis was titled "Advanced Livestock Production: A Course of Study." He also worked as an instructor at Northwest from 1969 until 1970.

A renowned educator with longstanding ties to the region, Miller taught high school vocational agriculture classes in Graham and Carrollton in the 1960s. Following his tenure at Northwest, he went on to earn a Ph.D. in 1972 at Purdue University after completing a dissertation titled "An Analysis of Attitude and Personality Changes in Prospective Vocational Teachers Resulting from Apprenticeship Programs."

Honored many times for classroom excellence, Miller received a citation for distinguished teaching from the Ohio Senate. He is also the recipient of OSU's Alumni Award for Distinguished Teaching and the Gamma Sigma Delta Teaching Award of Merit.

The on-campus centennial committee organized the Alumni Speaker Series last spring after a number of academic departments suggested creating a forum for alumni to lecture on various aspects of University history.
