OSU professor is next centennial speaker
MARYVILLE, Mo.
- The second installment in Northwest's Centennial Alumni Speaker
Series gets underway at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 3, in the J.W.
Jones Student Union Ballroom.
Dr. Larry Miller is the featured speaker.
Miller is a professor in the Department of Human and Community
Resource Development at The Ohio State University.
Nominated for the series by the Northwest's
Department of Agriculture, Miller earned a master's degree at
the University in1969. His thesis was titled "Advanced Livestock
Production: A Course of Study." He also worked as an instructor
at Northwest from 1969 until 1970.
A renowned educator with longstanding ties
to the region, Miller taught high school vocational agriculture
classes in Graham and Carrollton in the 1960s. Following his tenure
at Northwest, he went on to earn a Ph.D. in 1972 at Purdue University
after completing a dissertation titled "An Analysis of Attitude
and Personality Changes in Prospective Vocational Teachers Resulting
from Apprenticeship Programs."
Honored many times for classroom excellence,
Miller received a citation for distinguished teaching from the
Ohio Senate. He is also the recipient of OSU's Alumni Award for
Distinguished Teaching and the Gamma Sigma Delta Teaching Award
of Merit.
The on-campus centennial committee organized
the Alumni Speaker Series last spring after a number of academic
departments suggested creating a forum for alumni to lecture on
various aspects of University history.
