Zimetbaum sculpture, drawing exhibit opens Oct. 19

The Northwest Department of Art’s Visiting Artist Series continues this trimester with an exhibit by Marc Zimetbaum Monday, Oct. 19, through Friday, Nov. 13, in the first floor gallery space of the Olive DeLuce Fine Arts Building.

Zimetbaum, who works in figurative sculpture and drawings on both paper and clay, will give a lecture on his work at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 19, in DeLuce 244. The event is free and open to the public.

A native of Newark, N.J., now living on Staten Island, N.Y., Zimetbaum was a principle founder of the legendary New York Studio School where he studied and later became its director in 1966. In 2007, a feature-length documentary film featuring Zimetbaum’s creative life and experiences was released. For the last six years, he has taught figure sculpture at the Chautauqua School of Art in western New York, and for the last five years he has exhibited with Friends of Fire, a craft guild on Staten Island.

The DeLuce Gallery is open from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday; 1 to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday; and 1:30 to 5 p.m. Sunday.
