Small fire extinguished in campus laundry facility

Maryville Fire Department personnel extinguished a small fire on the Northwest campus Thursday evening, Nov. 13. Lt./Fire Inspector Phillip Rickabaugh said a large electrical dryer caught fire in the Custodial Laundry Facility, which is located on Centennial Drive just west of the McKemy Center.Emergency response personnel received multiple calls reporting the fire, including one from a student worker who left the building when the dryer began to emit smoke, Rickabaugh said.

Firefighters arrived on campus at approximately 5:30 p.m. and were on the scene for about an hour. The fire was limited to the dryer, and the building suffered only minor smoke damage.
