Artwork in a variety of media, including the Native American
motif porcelain image shown above, will be on display Nov. 14-
Dec. 5 at the Northwest Missouri State University Kansas City
Center in Liberty. The exhibition is being organized by the
Northwest Kansas City Center in cooperation with the Liberty
Arts Commission.
The Northwest Kansas City Center in Liberty will host an art exhibit Friday, Nov. 14, through Friday, Dec. 5. Located at 8 Victory Lane adjoining the Liberty High School campus, the center occupies the top two floors of Blue Jay Tower Plaza.
There will be a reception for the artists at the center from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Nov. 14. That event, along with the exhibit itself, is free and open to the public. Artwork may also be viewed during regular center hours, 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, or by appointment.
The juried show, which will feature about a dozen artists working in a variety of media, is the first of its kind for the center, which is hosting the exhibit in cooperation with the Liberty Arts Commission. Artwork on display, most of which will be for sale, is to include pottery, watercolors, oils, pastels and sculpture.
Jurors are Shane Immelt of Minds-i Photographic Service in Liberty and David Johnson, chair emeritus of the Department of Art at William Jewell College.
Johnson holds degrees from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and the Illinois Institute of Technology. He also earned a master’s of fine arts from the University of Kansas and is nationally known for his work in calligraphy. Immelt, who picked up his first camera at age 8, has more than 30 years of film-based and digital imaging experience.
Though this will be the center’s first multi-artist exhibit, the academic facility, which is operated by Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, hosted its first arts event earlier this fall -- an exhibit featuring the work of noted Missouri watercolorist Ricky Holtman.
Holtman’s wife, Chery, who is helping organize the upcoming show, called the center “a wonderful background for the art -- a great place.”
