Approximately 500 Northwest students from Greek-letter organizations and other campus groups are expected to participate in this year's Up 'til Dawn fundraising drive benefiting St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.
The Office of Campus Activities will host the drive's All-team Meeting (ATM) at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 29, on the third floor of the J.W. Jones Student Union.
ATM is the official kick-off for the Up 'til Dawn letter-writing campaign, in which six-member student teams write and send thousands of letters to family members, friends and hometown acquaintances asking for donations. Those who receive letters, and who wish to donate, are instructed to mail checks directly to St. Jude.
Northwest students not involved in Up 'til Dawn, but who wish to participate, are encouraged to attend the ATM event, which is the centerpiece of a series of activities scheduled for the current academic year.
This week’s ATM will include raffles and door prizes, including a chance for one Northwest student who writes at least 50 quality letters to win an iPod.
The 2008-’09 campaign is seeking to raise $115,000 before the end of the spring trimester, a goal that would boost the three-year total raised for St. Jude by Northwest students to $250,000.
Founded in 1998, Up 'til Dawn has grown into a nationwide philanthropy that takes place at more than 150 colleges and universities. The campaign consists of a variety of fundraising efforts held during the fall and spring and culminates with all-night celebrations by participating groups on each campus.
Last year, Northwest students raised more than $79,000 for St. Jude, a major health care and research center for children founded by the late entertainer Danny Thomas. To request more information about the Northwest Up 'til Dawn campaign, e-mail S277760@nwmissouri.edu.
