Saturday Night Live writer and comedian Seth Meyers, perhaps best known as Amy Poehler’s Weekend Update co-anchor, will perform at Northwest at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 4, in the Performing Arts Center on campus.
Admission for the Student Activities Council-sponsored event is $5 for students and $15 for the public. Tickets are available at the Student Services Center on the first floor of the Administration Building, which is open 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday-Friday. Tickets may also be purchased over the phone using a major credit card at 660.562.1212 (ext. 1212 on campus).
Meyers began his comedy career as a member of the Northwestern University improv sketch group, Mee-Ow. He went to become part of ImprovOlympic with the group Preponderate and was a cast member of Boom Chicago, an English-language improv troupe based in Amsterdam.
Meyers joined the SNL cast in 2001 and became co-head writer for the show in 2006, sharing that role with Tina Fey and Andrew Steele. He continued as head writer for the perennially popular NBC series through the 2006-2007 season, when he joined Poehler behind the Weekend Update desk.
Outside of SNL, Meyers appeared with Brendan Fraser and Anita Briem in the 3-D film “Journey to the Center of the Earth.” He also makes a cameo appearance in the 2008 comedy “Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist.”
Meyers is noted for his impersonations of such celebrities as John Kerry, Michael Caine, Anderson Cooper, Carrot Top, Prince Charles, Ryan Seacrest, Sean Penn, Stone Phillips and Tobey Maguire, and his long list of recurring characters on SNL includes Zach Ricky, host of a kids' hidden camera show; Nerod, the receptionist in the sketch "Appalachian Emergency Room"; and David Clinger, a scientist who often insults co-workers.
