The Residence Hall

The Missouri Academy is located in the North Complex in the middle of Northwest Missouri State University's campus. The building facility is a secure four-story residential hall with lounges, a computer lab, laundry room and a kitchen for student use. Missouri Academy administrative offices are located on the ground floor and the administrative staff has extensive contact with students on a daily basis. Residence hall rooms are double-occupancy. Lofts (not pictured above) are provided and, under appropriate conditions, students may be allowed to bring certain amenities.

Each floor is divided into two wings. A Residential Counselor (RC) is assigned to and resides on each wing. An RC is a full-time professional with at least a bachelor's degree and must pass the Missouri Academy vetting processes. Every wing has its own identity and culture. Healthy competition and friendship is encouraged and cultivated between wings. This living and learning environment truly establishes a community of scholarship that values academic excellence, while developing well-rounded citizens.

North Complex

North Complex is situated in the heart of campus in near proximity to the library, student union, the administration building, Garrett-Strong, and Colden Hall. North Complex is fully supported by the University in terms of custodial staff, maintenance staff, and auxiliary services. This residential facility is owned and operated by Northwest.

Safety and Security

The Missouri Academy is on a "fob system." This system allows access only to those individuals with a programmed fob (microchip). Anyone who attempts to use their fob in a fob door and who does not have access will not be let in by the fob system.

Each student is issued a room key, mailbox key, and fob. It is very important for the student to use these items daily. That is to say, the student must not lose the items, must not leave their room door open or unlocked when they are not present, and must report any breaches of security, including lost keys, to a Missouri Academy staff member.

Any security system is only as safe as the people it is protecting. Even though it is highly unlikely that a person would make their way into the Missouri Academy residential space unassisted, it is more likely that a student would let someone in trying to be nice to the guest. No one should let anyone into the Missouri Academy facilities that they do not know. Further, all guests must be registered at the Residence Life Office (front desk in the office complex).

Public and Common Areas

On the first floor, the Missouri Academy provides a main student lounge complete with wireless Internet, TV, pool table, air hockey, an upright piano, and video game consoles. Adjacent to the lounge is the computer lab and two study rooms. On the 2nd floor is a common study space and a study room. Both areas are furnished with dry erase boards. The enclosed area houses information on colleges and universities in which students may have an interest. Each floor has a lounge area as well.
