eAudiobooks:  fiction and non-fiction unabridged books narrated by professional actors

How to Download:


Using Windows Media Player 11?  (Download error message?) (Can't hear the downloaded book?)
  1. Login to your account.
  2. Search for an eAudiobook to download.
  3. Click Download this eAudiobook.

    4. You can download up to ten (10) eAudiobook items directly to your personal computer for playback using Windows Media Player or a portable listening device. Once you have reached the checkout limit, you cannot download additional eAudiobook items until a currently downloaded eAudiobook automatically expires. After the checkout period expires (21 days), you can no longer access the item.

  4. Select CD quality if you plan to transfer the audiobook to an MP3 player. Select Radio quality if you plan to listen to the audiobook on a notebook or personal computer.

    5. If you play the file while it is downloading, it will take longer and may not download correctly.

  5. Click Save (click Open if using a public computer).

    6. Download information displays, including information on the download time and system requirements.

  6. Listen to the eAudiobook file by locating and opening the eAudiobook file the same way you would any other file on your personal computer or notebook.

    7. You MUST open the eAudiobook file to obtain a license to play the file before disconnecting your Internet connection or you will be prompted to login and obtain a license the first time you attempt to open the eAudiobook file.

  7. You can now transfer the eAudiobook file to a portable listening device.

Windows Media Player 11 Download Error?

"A Windows Media Digital Rights Management (DRM) component encountered a problem.  If you are trying to
use a file that you obtained from an online store, try going to the online store and getting the appropriate usage rights."

If you receive the above message, follow these instructions:

  1. Close Windows Media Player.
  2. Open My Computer.
  3. On the Tools menu, click Folder Options, and then click the View tab.
  4. Select Show hidden files and folders, uncheck the Hide protected operating system files check box, and click OK.
  5. Go to the DRM folder** and rename it to DRM.old.  After you rename the folder, try to play your NetLibrary eAudiobook again.


 ** Locating the DRM folder in your version of Windows:
  • Windows Vista: C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\DRM
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 and Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\DRM
  • Windows 98 SE: C:\Windows\All Users\DRM
  • Windows Millennium Edition: C:\Windows\DRM

 Can't hear the downloaded book?

"I am able to download the audiobooks but whenever I try to play them, a window appears that asks for my authorization (password and username) but doesn’t accept it when I type it in."

  • Open the Tools Menu (ALT +T )
  • Select Options
  • Select the Security Tab
  • Click on the Zone Settings Button
  • Ok the Warning Message
  • Select the Trusted Sites icon
  • Click on the Sites button
  • Uncheck the Require Server Verification.
  • Checkbox Type http://*.netlibrary.com into the Add this web site.
  • Text box Click on the Add button Type in http://*.akamai.net
  • Click on the Add button
  • Click on the OK button
  • Click on the OK or Apply buttons until you are back to the Windows Media Player main window.
  • Reboot your computer.

Once you have done so acquire the license via the following steps:

1.  Logon to NetLibrary.
2.  Find the title in "Checked Out Items"or by searching for it.
3.  Clicking on the "Download"link.
4.  Click on the "Check Out (No Download. Only license to play file)"link.
5.  Minimize NetLibrary.
6.  Play the title.
7.  Once Windows Media Player acquires the license close Windows Media Player.
8.  Repeat the above steps for each title with the problem.

 

How to Transfer:


eAudiobooks can be transferred to a wide range of portable listening devices for offline use. If you want to transfer your eAudiobook to a portable device you MUST open the eAudiobook file and obtain a license before transferring the file. Use Windows Media Player to copy the eAudiobook file to a device. Follow one of the following set of directions, depending on which version of Windows Media Player you have:

Version 9.0
Version 10.0
Version 11.0


To transfer an eAudiobook file using Windows Media Player version 9.0:

  1. Find your CD Quality downloaded eAudiobook file and double click it to open it with Windows Media Player. Windows Media Player opens and will obtain the license to allow the eAudiobook file to play.
  2. Select Copy to CD or Device from the media player's menu options. A list of available titles will be displayed in the Items to Copy frame.
  3. Select the title you wish to download by clicking on the check box.
  4. Select a target device from the Items on Device drop-down menu. Click on the copy button to transfer the title.
  5. Windows Media Player will transfer the file to your portable device. When the transfer is complete, disconnect your portable device and enjoy your eAudiobook. (*Some MP3 players will need to use the Safely Remove Hardware icon (on the taskbar) before removing the USB cable or an error will occur.)

To transfer an eAudiobook file using Windows Media Player version 10.0:

  1. Find your CD Quality downloaded eAudiobook file and double click it to open it with Windows Media Player. Windows Media Player opens and will obtain the license to allow the eAudiobook file to play.
  2. You may stop playback at this point if you choose. Click the 'Library' tab. The media Library will be displayed.
  3. Find your eAudiobook in the Library Playlist pane, or sort your list by selecting the 'Now Playing' selection.
  4. Drag the eAudiobook title from the Contents or Details panes in your library to the List pane to add it to the list of items to be synchronized, ensure that your portable device is connected and click the 'Start Sync' button in the List pane. Windows Media Player will transfer the file to your portable device.
  5. When the transfer is complete, the status field will indicate 'Complete'. You many now disconnect your portable device and enjoy your eAudiobook. (*Some MP3 players will need to use the Safely Remove Hardware icon (on the taskbar) before removing the USB cable or an error will occur.)

To transfer an eAudiobook file using Windows Media Player version 11.0:

  1. Connect your portable device to your computer following the device’s instructions.
  2. Open Windows Media Player.
  3. In the File menu, open the downloaded file. This activates the license and begins to play the eAudiobook.
  4. Click the Sync tab (not the drop-down list below the tab).
  5. Click Now Playing in the menu on the left.
  6. Drag your eAudiobook title into the right pane.
  7. Click the Start Sync button located below the right pane.
  8. When synchronizing is 100 percent complete, disconnect your portable device following its instructions.
  9. Close Windows Media Player.
