This page endeavors to follow the 6th edition of Joseph Gibaldi's MLA Handbook for Writers of Research Papers. Section numbers are indicated throughout.

Changes made from the 5th edition:

When citing a full-text article from a library subscription service (e.g., EBSCOhost, InfoTrac, LexisNexis), the 6th edition:

  1. Recommends listing the article's starting page number followed by a hyphen, a space, and a period, if the subscription service provides only the starting page number of the article's original print publication. Otherwise, use inclusive page numbers.
  2. Allows for leaving out the URL of the service's home page, simply ending the
citation with the date of access. (5.9.7.a., pg. 229) Since the URL of the service's homepage differs from the library URL that actually connects to the database, the examples on this page leave out the home page URL.
