English and Modern Languages Scholarships

First-time Freshmen and Transfers: Most major-specific scholarships can be applied for by completing the Standard Scholarship Application in CatPAWS by Feb. 1, 2015.

Dr. Marvin D. Combs Memorial Scholarship

These majors may also be eligible for the following Dr. Marvin D. Combs scholarship:

Dr. Marvin D. Combs Memorial Scholarship [F] [C]


Available to first-time and continuing students who are graduates of high schools in Worth, Gentry, Harrison or Nodaway counties, who have declared a major in one of the disciplines housed in the College of Arts and Sciences and who are enrolled on a full-time basis at Northwest. This scholarship may be renewed by maintaining at least a 3.00 cumulative GPA.

English

Virgil and Dolores Albertini Scholarship [C]

Recipient shall be a student of junior standing or higher, have declared a major in English or English education and have an interest in American literature and/or English education.

Eddice B. Barber Scholarship [C]

Recipient shall be a full-time sophomore or higher and have declared a major in English. Academic achievement and financial need will be considered.

Lee E. Barber Memorial Scholarship [C]

Recipient shall be of sophomore standing or higher and have declared a major in English. Recipient shall be in good academic standing and show high moral character.

Mattie Dykes Creative Writing Scholarship [C]

The purpose of this scholarship is to encourage creative writing and open to all majors. The applicant must submit 5-15 pages of original creative work; more than one work may be submitted. Genres of work submitted may include but are not limited to fiction, poetry, drama or creative non-fiction.

No letter of recommendation required. No scholarship application required. Include a short cover sheet which includes full name, 919#, email address, local address and phone number.

Mary Goad Memorial Scholarship [C]

Awarded to a junior or senior English major with a cumulative GPA of 3.00 and who has shown academic achievement.

Dale Gorsuch English Scholarship [C]

Recipient must have declared a major in English or English education major, have a 3.50 GPA, and show financial need.

Frank Grube Scholarship [C]

Recipient shall be of junior standing and at least one of the following: a major or minor in English, a member of the Blue Key Society, or a varsity tennis player.

Mike Jewett Scholarship [C]

Awarded to a junior English major. Cumulative GPA of 3.00 with 3.50 in sophomore and junior English courses. Preference given to a student with financial need.

The Bruce Litte Memorial Scholarship [C][T]

Recipient shall be a full time student majoring in English and maintaining a 3.00 GPA. Academic achievement and financial need will be leading criteria.

Mildred Eckert Wallace English Scholarship [C]

Awarded to an English education major with at least sophomore standing and a minimum GPA of 3.00.

Languages

Mary Jackson Modern Language Scholarship [C]

Awarded to a language major with a minimum 3.00 cumulative GPA. Consideration is based on academic standing and financial need.

John H. Walker Memorial Scholarship [C]

Awarded to a language major or minor that is eligible to enroll in a Modern Languages class beyond the first-year level.
