Behavioral Sciences Scholarships

First-time Freshmen and Transfers: Most major-specific scholarships can be applied for by completing the Standard Scholarship Application in CatPAWS by Feb. 1, 2015.

Psychology, Sociology, and Counseling

Brenda Wilson Andrews Memorial Scholarship [C]

Available for students with a major in Psychology or Sociology who have junior or senior standing and a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00. The recipient will have a career objective related to social/family services and demonstrate financial need.

Gwynetha Girling Memorial Scholarship [C]

Awarded to a junior or senior interested in entering some phase of social work with 3.00 minimum GPA.

LeMar-Rischer Memorial Scholarship [C]

Awarded to senior psychology major who exhibits scholarship, leadership and character, and demonstrates financial need.

Arthur McGehee Memorial Scholarship [C]

Awarded to senior psychology major.

  • Deadline: Feb. 1

Kimberly Lynn Miller Memorial Scholarship [C]

Awarded to a junior or senior with declared major in psychology with preference to those planning to pursue fields related to developmental psychology. Having met all other award criteria, first preference shall be given to applicants having graduated from high schools located in Carrol County in Missouri.

Northwest Missouri School Counselors Scholarship [G]

Awarded to a graduate student who is seeking completion of a certification in school guidance and counseling. All applicants must reside in the geographic area served by the NWMSCA . 

Penny Parman Memorial Scholarship [C]

Awarded to a junior or senior with a declared major in the area of psychology.

Rischer Educational Enrichment Grant [C]

Awarded to a junior of senior who demonstrates active involvement in research or other aspects of professional development with preference for students who will use the funds to support research or professional development activities.

Marshall Tackett Memorial Scholarship [C]

Recipient shall maintain a minimum GPA of 2.50 shall have declared a major in the area of psychology, shall have academic standing as a junior or senior, and show financial need.  First preference will be given to student athletes.

C. & C. Taylor Guidance & Counseling [C] [G]

Recipient shall be a senior or graduate student majoring in or doing graduate work in the field of guidance counseling who shows need and past superior performance and achievement in his or her major field of study.

Taylor Memorial Counseling Scholarship [G]

Recipients shall be graduate students at Northwest working to pursue a degree in guidance counseling. Financial need and academic performance (3.25 undergraduate and 3.5 graduate GPA with a minimum of 6 hours of graduate courses that apply to the graduate counseling degree) will be leading criteria. 

  • Award: $3,650*
  • Deadline: Feb. 1

Eudora Wymore Memorial Scholarship [C]

Recipient shall be junior or senior at Northwest, maintain a minimum GPA of 2.75, have declared an academic major in the area of psychology or education, show financial need, and have completed a voluntary project with the handicapped (Special Olympics, etc).
