ACCOUNTING FACULTY AWARD

The Accounting Faculty Award is given to a student who is majoring in accounting.  The recipient is selected on the basis of scholarship, leadership ability, and the potential for a successful career in accounting. 

A specific application form must be obtained from Mr. Michael Northup, Colden Hall 2145.

CHARLES HAWKINS ACCOUNTING SCHOLARSHIP

Given in honor of Dr. Charles Hawkins, professor emeritus of accounting, in recognition of his years of distinguished service to Northwest. Applicant must be a full-time, first-trimester freshman student majoring in accounting. Will also be given consideration for Karen Hawkins Memorial Accounting Scholarship.

Award Award: $450

CITIZENS BANK & TRUST SCHOLARSHIP

Applicants must be a declared major in Accounting, Finance, Marketing, Management or Computer Management Systems and have expressed an interest in banking as a career. The recipient must be a junior or senior in the year the award is to be received and must have demonstrated academic excellence at the very highest level.

The Citizens Bank & Trust Scholarship will be paid in two equal amounts, one in the fall and one in the spring, and applied toward tuition, fees and other college expenses.

COOK FINANCE AWARD

Any junior or senior finance major who has a 3.0 GPA may apply for the Cook Finance Award. Selection is made by the finance faculty in conjunction with the Booth College of Business and Professional Studies scholarship committee.

The James F., Nannie B., Clarence I., and Elfreda Cook Finance Scholarship was funded by the late James Ray Cook of Maryville through the efforts of Mrs. Johnie Imes. A prominent businessman in the community, Cook also made the contribution which established the Cook-Imes Distinguished Lecture Series.

Award Award: $100

COOK-IMES DISTINGUISHED SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship will be presented to students with a major in Accounting, Marketing, or Finance. A minimum of 60 credit hours is required with at least 30 of those hours earned from Northwest Missouri State University, and a minimum overall GPA of 3.50. Applicants will be considered on their prior record of good citizenship and leadership potential as well as an excellent potential for success in the business world. Three recommendations, including one from a faculty member of the Melvin and Valorie Booth College of Business and Professional Studies are required for the Cook-Imes Distinguished Scholarship.

ELWYN K. DEVORE SCHOLARSHIP

Contact Melvin & Valorie Booth College of Business & Professional Studies. The Elwyn K. DeVore Scholarship is for management, marketing or finance majors who are juniors or seniors. The recipient must exhibit leadership abilities and maintain a 3.5 GPA. The scholarship will be awarded in two equal amounts for the fall and spring semesters to be applied toward fees, tuition or other college expenses.

At the time of his retirement in 1985, Dr. E.K. DeVore was one of only three Northwest professors who had held the highest academic rank, "Distinguished Professor", bestowed by the University's Board of Regents. Dr. DeVore first started teaching at Northwest in 1950 and replaced Dr. Sterling Surrey as head of the Division of Business in 1961. He served as Chairman, Head, and Dean of the School of Business and Government from 1961 to 1984

RON C. DEYOUNG SCHOLARSHIP

One annual award to a full-time student majoring in accounting, economics, finance, marketing, management, international business, business education or office information systems. The recipient must have maintained a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA. Prior recipients may be considered.

One award will be given to a student actively involved with the Wesley Foundation pursuing any academic major with minimum 2.5 GPA.

Award Award: two $400 awards

EDWARD D. JONES AND COMPANY AWARD

A senior finance major with at least a 3.00 GPA may apply for this scholarship. Potential for success in the financial world is the major criterion used in the selection process.

Edward Jones and Company, a brokerage firm in St. Louis, Missouri, with a branch office in Maryville, has recruited business student from Northwest for many years. Through its annual award, the company has helped many senior finance majors.

KAREN HAWKINS MEMORIAL ACCOUNTING SCHOLARSHIP

Awarded in honor of Karen Hawkins, accounting graduate of Northwest and daughter of Dr. Charles and Jackie Hawkins. Criteria are the same as for the Charles Hawkins Accounting Scholarship.

Award Award: $400

KENSINGER-IMES ACCOUTING AWARD

Each semester, an amount is awarded to a junior or senior accounting major. The recipients for both semesters are chosen from those who apply before the deadline of the preceding year. The stipend is to be applied toward tuition. The accounting faculty selects the recipient on the basis of academic standing, potential for completing an undergraduate degree, and financial need.

The Kensinger-Imes Accounting Award honors two outstanding former Northwest Professors - Clifford Kensinger and Mrs. Johnie Imes.

Kensinger served on the accouting facutly for 20 years and was prominent in his field. He was instrumental in helping many students obtain excellent employment positions and achieve career goals.

In December of 1980, Mrs. Imes retired as chairperson of the Department of Finance. She achieved excellent rapport with her students and was dedicated to them and to the university during her ten-year tenure at Northwest.

Both of these individuals made many contributions to the College and Northwest. Preparing countless students for success in the work world gained both Kensinger and Imes the respect, gratitude, and goodwill of students, colleagues, and friends.

MISSOURI SOCIETY OF CERTIFIED PUBLIC ACCOUNTANTS

This award, by the Educational Foundation of the Missouri Soceity of Certified Public Accountants, varies in amount each year.

The scholarship will be awarded to a junior or senior accounting major who is a Missouri resident. The recipient must have a high academic record, show financial need, and demonstrate leadership ability.

A specific application form must be obtained from Mr. Michael Northup, Colden Hall 2145.

Award Award: $1,000
Deadline Deadline: Jan. 15
