Freshman and Transfer Students' Timeline
November & December
- Apply for admission
- Attend Financial Aid Night or Northwest Night at an area high school
- Search for scholarships
January
February
- Complete FAFSA on the Web @ www.fafsa.ed.gov
- List Northwest to receive FAFSA information. School code: 002496
March
- Respond to any request from Northwest to verify information submitted on FAFSA application (See forms to download)
- Submit FAFSA for Missouri State programs by April 1 deadline
- Northwest to begin processing for first-time freshman and transfer students in late March
April
- Receive Financial Aid Notification from Northwest. Respond by accepting or declining financial aid offered
- Sign up for SOAR
May
- Request final transcripts be sent to Northwest from high school or colleges attended
June
July
- Contact private/outside donors of scholarships or other resources for payment remittance to Northwest's Office of Scholarships and Financial Assistance
- University bills are sent. Federal aid processed will appear on the bill, but aid will not credit until just prior to the beginning of classes.
August
- Federal aid credits to student accounts
- Private scholarships and other outside sources of assistance received and credited to students' accounts.
Continuing Students' Timeline
December
January
February
- Complete summer application for financial aid after summer preregistration (See forms to download)
March
- Respond to any request from Northwest to verify information submitted on FAFSA application (See forms to download)
April
May (following spring trimester grades)
- Academic progress checked for federal aid - (See forms to download - guidelines/petition)
- Renewal requirements checked for general institutional scholarships - See website www.nwmissouri.edu/FINAID/Continuing.htm
June
- Processing financial aid for continuing Northwest students to begin
- Respond to Financial Aid Award letter, complete and return requested forms to Northwest Missouri State University via CatPaws
July
- University bills are sent. Federal aid processed will appear on the bill but will not credit until just prior to the beginning of classes.
August
- Final check of academic progress made. Federal aid removed for ineligible students (See forms to download)
- Final check for renewable requirements made. Scholarships removed for ineligible students
- Renewal FAFSAs
- Complete exit counseling if graduating and have received loans
