These scholarships are funded by contributions to our Northwest Foundation or by private donors and are specific to designated majors. See our Web site at www.nwmissouri.edu/finaid/paying.htm for full eligibility requirements and contact for separate application.

Major-specific and Private scholarship Award amounts funded through the Northwest Foundation may fluctuate and are contingent upon funding.

CHARLES HAWKINS ACCOUNTING SCHOLARSHIP

Given in honor of Dr. Charles Hawkins, professor emeritus of accounting, in recognition of his years of distinguished service to Northwest. Applicant must be a full-time, first-trimester freshman student majoring in accounting. Also will be given consideration for Karen Hawkins Memorial Accounting Scholarship.

KAREN HAWKINS MEMORIAL ACCOUNTING SCHOLARSHIP

Awarded in honor of Karen Hawkins, accounting graduate of Northwest and daughter of Dr. Charles and Jackie Hawkins. Criteria are the same as for the Charles Hawkins Accounting Scholarship.

AGRICULTURE CDE Award

Award is given to the highest individual in each of the 24 fall and spring FFA/Agriculture CDE areas. If highest individual does not apply to Northwest, the second highest individual is eligible using the same eligibility requirements. To be eligible, students must apply and be accepted into an agriculture program at Northwest by March 1 of his/her senior year of high school. The Award will be credited to the student's account and can be used for tuition and fees by the student when he/she enrolls at Northwest the following fall and spring trimesters.

BOOTH COLLEGE OF BUSINESS AND PROFESSIONAL STUDIES SCHOLARSHIP

F.B. HOUGHTON FRESHMAN LIVESTOCK EVALUATION

Awarded annually to an incoming freshman who would like to become involved in the livestock judging activities. Applicants must major in agriculture to receive the first $250 and be actively involved in livestock evaluation activities at Northwest and maintain at least a 2.25 GPA to receive the second $250. Chosen on the basis of livestock judging, activities and performance as well as high school academic activity record.

RODEO SCHOLARSHIP

For an active member of National intercollegiate Rodeo Association. Top 10 finishers in state rodeo competition. Be a high school or youth association competitor. Requires 2.5 GPA or above.

MELVIN D. & VALORIE G. BOOTH BETHANY BUSINESS SCHOLARSHIP

Available to graduates of South Harrison High School in Bethany, Mo., accepted as entering freshmen. Must have minimum GPA of 2.50, financial need and have a declared major and degree within the Melvin D. & Valorie G. Booth College of Business and Professional Studies, with first preference to "business" majors. Contact South Harrison High School counselor for application.

Award Award: One Award from Booth College, full tuition based on 30 credit hours per year

BOOTH COLLEGE OF BUSINESS AND PROFESSIONAL STUDIES SCHOLARSHIP

Awarded to a first-time freshman majoring in one of the areas in the Melvin D. and Valorie G. Booth College of Business and Professional Studies (accounting, economics, finance, business education, international business, office information systems, management information systems, computer science, broadcasting, journalism, advertising, agricultural business, marketing and management). It is a non-renewable scholarship.

FOREST G. & JOAN B. LOWE SCHOLARSHIP

Recipients shall have elected a major in either mathematics or physics with a minimum 3.00 cumulative GPA. Chosen from the following areas in order as they appear: Gilman City High School, Gilman City, MO.; Northeast High School, Kansas City, MO.; Maryville High School, Maryville, MO.; then to applicants from any other school. COMPUTER VISIT DAY SCHOLARSHIP

Awarded to a first-year student who declaresa business education, computer science, interactive digital media- computer science programming, management information systems or office information systems major and particpates in the Computer Visit day. Must submit a high school transcript, and two recommendations covering academics, citizenship, leadership and record of extracurricular activities. Dual Credit Scholarships

Awarded to first-time students who have successfully completed a dual credit course through the Department of Communication, Theatre and Languages at Northwest. Students must recieve a final grade of a 'B' or higher, have a high school GPA of at least 3.00 and have an ACT score of 21 or better. Awarded for a maximum of two trimesters. All recipients must officially declare a major in one of the programs offered by the Department of Communication,Theatre, and Languages. C.L. BUTLER SCHOLARSHIP

Applicants pursuing secondary education will be considered, with preference given to those pursuing English education, with outstanding potential in area of study as evidenced by excellent ACT scores and letter of recommendation as to potential success as an English teacher. Recipient shall demonstrate a need for financial assistance and shall maintain enrollment in at least 12 hours for the fall and spring trimesters.

HUNT-PORTER SCHOLARSHIP

Recipients will be entering freshmen who have graduated from a Missouri high school, rank in the upper 10 percent of their graduations class, score at or near the upper 90th percentile on the ACT or SAT, demonstrate financial need and have chosen a degree an elementary education.

Award Award: Total of $15,300 Awarded in varying amounts

HOWARD A. MCINTOSH SCHOLARSHIP

Graduate of high school in Mills County, Iowa. If no qualified applicant from Mills County, scholarship awarded to graduate of high school in Atchison, Nodaway or Worth counties in Missouri. High school GPA of 3.00. Letter of recommendation from at least one teacher who can speak of student's probability for success and knows student desires to become a teacher.

Award Award: $2,400 total

SHAWNA SEVERSON ZECH MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

Recipient of this Award shall be pursuing studies in elementary education or special education from any class level and shall maintain enrollment in at least 12 hours for the fall and spring trimesters. Applicant must submit a one-page essay regarding a challenge or barrier they have overcome to pursue and succeed in their education.

Family & Consumer Sciences

PHYLLIS COMBS LEET SCHOLARSHIP

Given to entering freshman in Child & Family Studies, Dietetics, Restaurant and Food Service Management, Merchandising Textiles, Apparel & Furnishings or Family & Consumer Science Education with a minimum high school GPA of 3.00 on a 4.00 scale. Must reside on a farm or in a small town (1,500 or less in population) in 19-county northwest Missouri area.

Award Award: $1,000

Forensics

 

FORENSICS SCHOLARSHIP

Awarded to students who are actively involved in forensics. Recipients are not required to major in the Communication, Theatre, & Language Department. Auditions will be held by appointment on an individual basis. Students will be asked to present a brief selection of their choosing. The selection may be all or part of a speech delivered in competition. The application may be downloaded at www.nwmissouri.edu/dept/ctl. Please contact the Director of Forensics at (660) 562-1506 to schedule a specific audition time. The dates for scheduled auditions will be Oct. 13, 2008 through Feb. 7, 2009.

Music

MUSIC PERFORMANCE SCHOLARSHIPS

Award is based on performance ability and academic excellence. Scholarships are first-time performance awards and are available to all students. Students may audition in one or more of the following areas: instrumental, vocal, keyboard and jazz (piano and bass only). Recipients are not required to be music majors but are encouraged to participate in musical activities. Auditions take place in February (call for specific dates) and must be scheduled in advance by appointment only. Theatre

THEATRE PERFORMANCE/TECHNICAL SCHOLARSHIPS

Awarded to students who have selected a major in Theatre or Speech/Theatre Education. Prior to scheduling an appointment to interview, students must submit an application and resume detailing their prior theatre experience. A picture may be included but is not required. Students interested in performance scholarships will be asked to present two contrasting monologues of no longer than four minutes combined. (Note: The audition does not include singing). Students interested in technical theatre will be asked to describe their area of interest and to present examples of their work. The application can be downloaded at www.nwmissouri.edu/dept/ctl.
