MOHELA Parent Loan for Undergraduate Students (PLUS)

MOHELA offers a special discount to qualifying parent borrowers through the MOHELA Public Service Rewards (PSR) Program. This reward program currently offers the parent a 3.25% interest rate on PLUS repayment. This 3.25% rate is set each academic year by MOHELA.

In addition, MOHELA gives the parent a 3% discount for direct debit.

Keep in mind that these benefits are not available if the loan is consolidated. The only benefit available on a consolidated MOHELA PLUS is a 0.25% interest rate discount for direct debit.

To qualify for the Public Service Reward (PSR), parent borrowers must meet all of the following criteria:

  1. Be a Missouri resident.
  2. Be employed in Missouri.
  3. Be employed in one of the occupations listed below. Appropriate documentation will be collected by MOHELA at repayment.
    1. K-12 Teacher or K-12 Education Professional, documented at repayment by a copy of the teaching contract for the current school year, and a PSR application certified by an authorized school official.
    2. Missouri National Guard, documented at repayment by a PSR application certified by an authorized National Guard official.
    3. Full-time Nurse, graduated from an accredited post secondary educational institution, licensed in the state of Missouri, documented at repayment by a copy of the Nursing License, and a PSR application certified by an authorized official.
    4. Full-time Peace Officer, POST certified, documented at repayment by a PSR application certified by an authorized official.
    5. Full-time Social Worker employed by the Missouri Department of Social Services or by a non-profit agency, documented at repayment by listing MO state license number, and a PSR application certified by an authorized official.
    6. Full-time Missouri State Employee, including public colleges and universities, and all persons listed in the Missouri Blue Book, documented at repayment by a PSR application certified by an authorized official.

MOHELA Lenders charge a 3% processing fee. It is deducted from the amount to be disbursed.

Only if the parent qualifies based on the criteria above and only if the parent plans to take advantage of the interest rate reductions should the below application link be used. If the parent does not qualify or does not plan to take advantage of the interest rate reductions, you should return to your CatPAWS and accept the Federal Direct Parent Plus Loan and complete the Direct Parent Plus Loan information form.
