Computer User's Guide Cover 2008

Shown Above: The 2008 winning Computer User's Guide cover.

Carolina Amaral, a graphic design major from Brazil, submitted the winning entry in the 2008-2009 Take the Challenge cover art contest sponsored by Northwest’s Information Systems department in cooperation with the department of Fine Arts and the Center for Information Technology in Education (CITE).

Amaral’s design is featured on the front cover of the 2008-2009 Computer User's Guide to the Electronic Campus, which is distributed each fall to approximately 1,700 computer users, including all new freshmen.

Amaral, who graduated in 2008, worked on campus as a student graphic designer in the Office of University Relations.

The Take the Challenge cover art contest is held each spring to draw attention to the Computer User's Guide to the Electronic Campus, which provides important information about campus computing resources, guidelines and policies. It also gives student graphic artists a chance to create a professional-caliber design piece suitable for portfolios and résumés.

Contest submissions were critiqued by a panel of judges comprising faculty and staff from the Department of Art, the Office of Information Systems and the Center for Information Technology in Education (CITE).

As the winner of this year’s contest, Amaral will have her name listed in the acknowledgements section of the guide as well as on the back cover. She will also receive a certificate of accomplishment, a 4-gigabyte USB pen drive, two cover flats and two copies of the guide for her portfolio.
